Before presenting the Planetary Charter and its Fundamental Principles, here’s a quick explanation of some of the words which you will come across in the text.
The key to Planetary Thought is écoloeconomy : (environmental economics).
This new term is based on three fundamental notions, namely :
- “oikos”, identifies that which must be managed : the Planet.
- “logos”, designates the speech, direction and reason – which must be implemented within the planetary system. This is defined by: the Planetary Charter.
- “nomos”, designates the rules and laws with which to lead an effective planetary management system.
The ecoloeconomy restores the direction and reasons for being in an economy. It could drive the way forward in multidisciplinary activities, as well as in their current and future applications.
The ecoloeconomic management of countries/states, commercial and industrial enterprises allows movement towards a balanced biosphere.
The human race will then stop dramatically impacting its environment. The new ecoloeconomic system aims to stop the unequal profit distribution which is currently evident… to the catastrophic detriment of another.
In an ecoloeconomy, the management of humanity and the planet leaves the world of competition behind, to find a new healthy, smarter and united co-operative working. There are no winners anymore, or losers.
Mutual respect, together with the pleasure of living together as Human Beings and the desire for a peaceful future for the human race within the biosphere, stimulates and directs all thought, decisions and the resulting actions.
In an ecoloeconomy, knowledge is gathered in order to synthesize and restore priority to the ecology, taking into account the economy. This allows a gradual rebalance of evolution and secures the continuation of life on Earth.
